He awoke in the backseat of a crashed car, not sure where he was.
“...Shit...hello?” he screamed into the forest, hoping someone would hear. He thought it was a good idea to check the glovebox before leaving the car, his mother always left important things there in case of a crash. It opened with a loud ‘click’. Inside there was a black, metal flashlight. It weakly illuminated the trees around him. “Okay Dom...let’s think smart....follow the road and see if you can find a town....wait. Where the fuck is the road?” he pondered to himself. In all directions were the dense woods, caging him and the car in a cradle of dead trees. “How did the car even get here...?” He wondered, as there was no visible entrance into the small clearing. Examining the clearing, he notice a shape in the center, a small animal-like shape. He walked towards it. Upon closer examination, he realized it was a rabbit. A dead one, it’s neck was slit open. He backed away, and heard chittering. Like rabbits teeth. He paused as he heard a whisper.
“Run” it said. He did as the voice told, it kept talking as the chittering grew louder and louder, saying “Follow the light”, he once again did as the voice instructed. A light came through the trees, he ran towards it. When he got to the light, he saw a light pink cat with blue eyes. The cat stared at him, and he stared at the cat, both of them ignoring the noise of twigs cracking in the background. A shadow grew behind the cat. He pointed the flashlight at the figure, showing a leather mask, with large and disturbingly crooked bunny ears on it. His head shook rapidly, almost demonically, as the figure threw a large hammer down at the cat’s head. He blinked, and all of sudden the cat was Zac, his head crushed in. The Bunny Man’s hammer dripped with blood, a stark crimson against the dead, pale browns of the trees and sleek pink of the cat. He ran again, and couldn’t even think about stopping. He screamed and sat right up.
“SHIT!”, he breathed heavily as his mother told him to wake up and calm down. Getting dressed, he was disturbed by his dream. He almost couldn’t wait to get to school and tell Gabbi and Zac. When Dominic arrived, Gabbi could tell by the look on his face that he had another disturbing nightmare.
“TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME TELL MEEEEEEEE!!!!” she shrieked. Zac gave the two of them a confused look, and Dominic explained what she was so excited about, and then told the two of them what happened in the dream.
“Wait...I was a cat? And then I DIED?!” Zac asked as he ran his hands through his pink hair. Dominic sheepishly nodded. For the rest of the school day, Gabbi was obsessed with the Bunny Man, Zac was pissed at Dominic for making him die in his dream, and Dominic was neutral to the whole situation. At the end of the day, Dominic didn’t want to go to sleep- he was terrified. He was thinking about the Bunny Man too much, he needed to calm down. He breathed deeply for a few minutes and calmed himself down. He looked out the window into the backyard. He screamed. He saw the Bunny Man. He stood there for a few minutes and disappeared. He ran downstairs and told his mother. She said it was anxiety and told him to go to bed. He tried. That’s all he could do.
